24/7 Libraries – How to Get Started

Are you or your Council interested in the 24/7 concept for your local library? Have you been asked to write a business plan and you don’t know where to start? This is the session for you. In an ambitious program to reimagine how the public library of the future operates, and following a successful community trial, Northern Beaches Council’s popular Forestville Library 24/7 service has been operating since March 2023. As one of the first public libraries in Australia to offer 24/7 access to library members, Forestville Library continues to provide a full range of services, and remains staffed, during standard business hours, with full self-service functionality and access to the entire library space available at other times.

In this session, we will cover the essential elements you need to get to grips with if you want to start exploring 24/7 access to existing or new library facilities. From developing building criteria, understanding security compliance requirements and working with a range of inter-departmental teams, this talk will provide you with a broad understanding of the information you need to know to start your 24/7 journey
